It is important for students to be able to access a collection of diverse books in my classroom. My students themselves are very diverse and come to my room from many different countries, speaking a variety of languages. They love being able to share their cultures with one another and share in the excitement of their traditions and where they are from.
Our classroom library needs to reflect the diversity of our unique backgrounds. Each day I read a new book that sheds light on a new part of the word, unknown traditions, and amazing cultures. We pull out our globe and look to see what part of the world we are learning about today, and watch videos of the people we read about to bring them to life. I would love to have these books have a permanent spot in our library, a place where students have more than a week to look at a book, and a place where I can inspire a deeper love for learning and reading.
