Students enter my school at about a 4th grade reading level. In order for them to become more proficient readers, they need to do a lot of reading, ideally with books of their choosing and at their level. This is where a classroom library is essential.
I have the opportunity to provide my students with easier (and free) access to high-interest books that can pique their interest. This will positively affect their reading growth this year, which has been shown to increase their likelihood of graduating high school and going on to college. Ultimately, I want my students to become lifelong readers who are able to choose books they enjoy.
