I teach students with severe disabilities in a high crime and poverty neighborhood. Not only do my students have severe disabilities, they also have to deal with the fact that they live in the shelter, and they could be asked to move after a period of time. Often my students mention that they have nothing to call their own. My students are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders so to speak.
