Sitting all day is surely not an easy task for 7 and 8 year olds. Most students learn and work best when they are comfortable and not only limited to their desk and plastic chair. I currently allow my students to sit on the floor if they choose, but the items I requested will make their experience so much better!
Imagine being an active and curious child that is expected to sit still at a desk for 6 hours a day.
The items I have selected will allow my students to choose a place to sit that is most comfortable for them during independent work time. Giving students a choice also makes them feel empowered and teaches them to make responsible choices when choosing a place to work. The rug will be a cozy place where we will all gather as a class for lessons and activities. It will also be an option for students who like to work on the floor.
After all that our students have been through this year, giving them a comfortable and welcoming environment will get them excited for 3rd grade!
