As an inclusion teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my second graders are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Each year it is my goal to create a classroom community where all students can access the curriculum, express themselves and take ownership of their learning.
The students in my class live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families. The majority of my students speak a language other than English at home. Despite the many challenges that they may face, these children come to school each and every day ready to persevere and embrace all opportunities to learn something new!
