In my classroom we use book studies to teach standards to students. They get real life reading experience through, book clubs, read alouds, and whole class studies. They are taught to do what read readers do and think like real readers think. We dig deep into the pages of every text we get to enjoy.
Our classroom community will be strengthened, uplifted, and taught from this fantastic novel. Alan Gratz's book, Refugee, will help my students to be able to relate to refugees from around the world, will allow us to talk about social issues, and help us learn what we can do to help.
