We live in a very transient section of town. Students move often and families don't have money to spend on the luxury of school supplies or books for the home. By 10, the average student should be able to read a chapter book of 200 pages in a few days. Many of mine still struggle to get through one in a week. I work hard to find things that will hold their attention and help them to love learning at the same time. They love learning about Science and History. The school population is very high ELL, so finding opportunities that will give them hand- on experience or help build their vocabularies are vitally important.
