My students love learning about new real world situations that will allow them to use their skills that they learn in the classroom. They can use rates to calculate discounts, fractions to bake cookies and even calculate how long it will take on their family summer trip.
The use of these materials are going to be part of our daily activity in my classroom, in math. These activities provide enrichment to our curriculum requirements. Using models and notebooks in math, students use guided practice/notes and to record modeled strategies. The existence of these supplies in my classroom allows my students to focus more on the actual curriculum and activities and less on acquiring these.
