Do you remember being in elementary or middle school and counting down the minutes that were left of reading class? Or do you remember being in school and wanting to 鈥渞ead just one more page鈥? While some of my students already love reading, many of them have yet to find the joy in reading. We need to update our classroom library for my upcoming multi-age class of diverse 5th and 6th graders with various, engaging texts to help them grow a love for reading! My goal is for my students to be surrounded high levels of just-right texts that appeal to their interests. Through my mini-lessons, I teach my students reading skills that they can apply to almost any text. Thus, the skills they learn today, they can use to read books that they鈥檙e interested in, and truly develop higher level thinking skills while they ENJOY reading! Through this approach, I am confident my students will become engaged readers not only in class, but at home as well. When we understand and enjoy what we read, we want to read more of it! Get these just-right books in the hands of kids, help get a love of reading in their hearts. Together, with you support, we鈥檒l be able to update our small classroom library to meet the needs of the new multi-age 5th/6th grade level!
