Our program offers students a comprehensive design education. Our curriculum is comprised of a variety of projects including logo design, editorial design, marketing and branding, and 3D design. The most popular projects involve package design, which perfectly marries mathematics, engineering, and art. However, in order to bring their 3D creation to life, students need to cut out their design with X-Acto blades. Handing a sharp blade to a teenager doesn't sound like a great idea, does it? By introducing the Cricut machine into our classroom, we can eliminate the need (and risk) of using blades. Once our students ensure they've measured the template for their package/box correctly, the machine cuts it out for them. This allows them to focus on creating beautiful artwork and not have to worry about accidentally messing up their print or cutting their fingers. Not only can this machine help with classroom projects, but it also provides us with a tool that can be used for other school-based fundraising projects to help us purchase much needed supplies.
