My philosophy as an art educator is formed around the essential belief that public education exists to serve both the individual and collective needs of its students, and ensure their ability to actively participate in a contemporary democratic society. To engage in participation in a democracy, it is important that students have the ability to think critically about the visual culture that influences them daily; that is the goal of a quality art education. This is especially important in art education because of the growing impact of images on our lives. I enjoy seeing my students fall in love with the creative and visual arts and in the process expanding their perspectives of self and their global environment.
