Building a classroom environment where all students feel they belong is extremely important to me. A big part of building that sense of family and community is coming together each morning to share our goals for the day, engage in morning routine, and discuss what emotions we're feeling. We need a classroom rug that is large enough to fit all of us together as a family, so no one feels excluded! Our first grade family would benefit from a comfortable, large, classroom rug in so many ways! Besides helping us build our sense of community each morning, having a rug will provide extra work space during station rotations, be a special place for us to practice "energizers" and yoga breaks, and give us a fun spot to meet for story time as well as class discussions during all subjects. Students can be nervous to share answers or give feedback from their desk. When everyone is close together, sharing, and listening, even the most timid students will open up and share their thoughts. With this classroom rug I would love to create a special place, a "safe haven" where all of my students could open up.
