My students are those that are discouraged because they have not improved their reading skills from the prior year, but they still come to my class with smiles on their faces asking me what we are doing each day. They are eager to increase their confidence and reading levels. At first, my students did not want to be in my reading class, but now that they know I am here to help them. They tell me that they like me and want to learn.
I have quite a few students that have either a learning disability, an impairment or a specific disability, labeling them "ESE" (Exceptional Student Education). Due to being ESE students, many times these students have low reading levels. This means that I must make accommodations during instruction for them.
Our school is over 2,500 in population. It is a very nice school and in great area, but many of my students applied for a waiver to come here. They are from areas where the schools are not so nice. I feel that we have a very good mix of students.
