Our students are very diverse, coming from a town with a large immigrant population from everywhere from Ecuador to Mexico to Kenya. They have enriched my career and my life and I strive everyday to do the same for them. Many come from a household that does not speak English and have the extra challenge of learning English while trying to learn academics.
A large portion of our population is not meeting grade level expectations. Many of the families want to help their children but struggle with language or financial hardships. Many families are working multiple jobs and do not have the means or time to bring their children to the beach, museums or other educational places. Despite the hardships many face, my school community stays motivated and look to help each other however possible.
