Our band program is young and growing, and we still lack some of the basic resources needed for ensemble success. Many of our students do not have proper neck straps, reeds, or mallets for their instrument, and cannot afford to purchase them on their own. Our bass drum sits on the floor of my classroom, and we use drumsticks to play our glockenspiel. The bass drum stand and mallets will allow our percussionists to have the proper equipment they need to lead our band.
The reeds will allow my students to play our bassoons and oboes, setting them up for admission to arts high schools and scholarships for college. Young musicians need a constant supply of reeds to fully participate in ensemble playing. The double reeds will allow our students to focus on playing these challenging but highly rewarding instruments. Overall, my students lack many of the resources other schools take for granted. The full funding of this project will set up my students for success on their chosen instrument, growing our program into a thriving part of our arts department and greater school community.
