The materials and supplies that I am requesting may not be a typical Ðǿմ«Ã½.org project but bear with me!
My students are diving into Chemistry and one of our goals for this year is to equip every student with the necessary tools needed to be able to successfully read a scientific model.
I am a big advocate of not only using vocabulary in the classroom but also allowing students to create a pictorial version of the vocabulary word. This assists each student with memorizing vocabulary and being able to apply it in their everyday lives.
Instead of drawing an element and Bohr model on a regular sheet of paper, picture 130 students creating these models on a T-shirt? Have you ever seen a really cool shirt and stopped the person wearing it to ask them what is on their shirt/what does it mean?
The acrylic paint will be used to decorate plain, white T-shirts. Each student will receive a shirt of their own to decorate and they will be allowed to wear it to school. Students will have a rubric to follow, while also being allowed to be creative.
This Chemistry Wearable Art will be a great talking piece in the as they are transitioning in the hallways and wherever else the student is when they are wearing the shirt. If students are able to explain what is going on in the shirt, they are learning, teaching someone else, and most importantly, making memorable moments.
Thank you so much for taking the time out to read our project! Step one (T-shirt donations) of this phase is almost complete. Please help me finalize the second step (acquiring acrylic paint) and help me bring my plan to fruition!
