I teach 26 curious and energetic fifth graders in a high-needs community. My students exemplify the idea that demography does not have to dictate one’s destiny. Despite the numerous challenges they have already encountered in their young lives, they are determined to learn and succeed. The 2008 presidential election truly captivated my kids. They were inspired and excited to watch our nation elect a new president, and since then, their interest in politics and US history has only grown.

About my class
