By using Time for Kids magazines with my ELL students, I will be able to introduce new vocabulary words through real world events. These magazines contain articles that are the perfect length for us to dissect and discover new meanings (the real life pictures are an added plus when working with ELL students). Along with the subscriptions comes a digital version where students will be able to listen as the text is being read to them.
With these magazines, my students will improve their English vocabulary, making them feel more successful and eager to participate in class. Learning vocabulary is not the only thing my students will gain from using the Time for Kids magazines. By using materials such as sticky notes and highlighters, my students will be able to track their thinking, which helps with reading comprehension and writing.
