The books chosen for this project will be used for the Dystopian unit coming up as part of the Teachers College reading curriculum for the eighth grade. The other books chosen will provide students with urban literature choices to reflect their own upbringing and connect to the Urban Literature unit we just completed. Additionally, the audiobooks will assist students who have difficulty reading on grade level or decoding.
In our classroom, our small group instruction focuses on building student comprehension and literacy skills; these books will help facilitate that growth. We also hope that students enjoy the choices and the diversity of the book choices in order to help them foster a love for reading.
