We have experienced a year like no other. We managed to successfully make it through an entire school year during a pandemic. Virtual learning has its pros and cons, but ultimately it has shifted the scholars' morale.
My goal is to restore and encourage the love of reading by creating a fun, cozy space to read, and your donation will help build our classroom reading nook with comfortable furniture (bean bags and rug) and books filled with diversity. It is important for scholars to read books of cultural diversity to foster growth and encourage them to be catalyst of social change.
In the midst of building scholars to become catalyst of social change, scholars who pleasurably read will experience greater academic success. One motivation for reading fiction is the enjoyment taken in when relating to a character, their life, problems, and experiences. When scholars are able to read and find a connection between themselves and a character, they are able to see how others are just like them. This sense of connectivity will foster a love of reading.
