I teach an amazing group of students in grades 2–4 in a Multiple Disabilities Support classroom. My students have a range of needs including visual impairments, intellectual disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and other physical and medical challenges. We prioritize all areas of development—medical, physical, social-emotional, and academic. While our students face challenges in cognition, communication, and mobility, they are full of personality, enthusiasm, and joy. They use various communication methods—eye gaze, gestures, switches, and vocalizations—to engage in learning. Our classroom is all about adapted, hands-on instruction that meets every learner where they are. Our favorite tradition is Fun Fridays, where sensory-rich, science activities bring big smiles and excitement. We are a vibrant, multi-talented community where growth is constant and every accomplishment is celebrated.
