I am a third year teacher who is making the jump from teaching third graders into preparing fifth grade students for middle school.
It is so important to me to have my students become critical thinkers in this ever changing and more analytical world. We have become a world that needs problem solvers and service providers. In supplying my students with books like The One and Only Ivan and magazines like TIME For Kids that help them develop these skills, they will be able to go into the future being able to think deeply and analyze any situation that comes their way. Reading these books and really digging deep will help them develop those skills for the future.
These books will be used in small group situations to develop critical thinking and reading skills. Time For Kids will be used as a whole class instruction tool inviting discussion and debate about the issues that face kids their age today.
