The pandemic has reaffirmed my love of teaching. While this past year was the most difficult of my 10-year career, it proved one thing: I love being in the classroom with students. I love watching the lightbulbs go off above their heads when they finally make that connection they've been working toward. I love hearing them engage in conversations sparked by something we read. I love watching them open up as the year unfolds, becoming more unapologetically themselves with every passing day.
Our virtual classroom, Google Meets, and Zoom sessions could only capture so much of the magic that happens inside the walls of a classroom. I want to build a classroom for the upcoming school year that places the focus on student work, making them feel valued and welcomed. I have placed materials on my list that will allow me to easily display student work around my classroom.
