While the students at my school love to use the computers we have, they love to print out things as well, but documents are only so exciting to them!
With a 3D printer the students will be able to imagine, design, and finally print whatever they want really. Having a tangible object to hold after creating it on the computer goes such a long way in rewarding one's efforts!
Using programs such as Google SketchUp, students will be given basic guidelines as to what to make, but will have quite a bit of autonomy with the construction of their creation!
