This project is created to help give my diverse learner students a calm corner. Sometimes a student's disability may cause them to exhibit behaviors that are not conducive to an ideal learning environment and some may write them off as being "bad students." As a special ed teacher, I know they just need to be exposed to healthy ways to regulate their emotions. Calm corners are a safe space where students can go to essentially calm down when they are angry or frustrated in class. Here they can practice mindful techniques, read books that interest them, and use sensory objects that help them relax. The goal is for them to learn how to cope with their feelings in a healthy way so that they can refocus their energy and get back to work.
