In the 4th Grade, our Social Studies focus is the Hawaiian Culture. Our community partnerships gifted us taro which students will plant in garden beds around campus. Throughout the year we will care, maintain, water, and take data collections on the growth of our taro. At the end of the school year we will harvest our taro and make dishes which students will be able to enjoy. The instant pots will help us to be able to cook, steam, and prepare the many different ways taro can be prepared. We will start a compost bin and use the compost to fertilize our soil. We will even be able to observe our taro plants and make art projects out of them. It is essential that our students learn how to be self sustainable, and live off the land. Our goal is to teach students then we we care for our land, in return, our land takes care of us!
