My students are middle schoolers from grades 6, 7, and 8 in a Title I school.
Our school is considered the most diverse middle school in the state, as we are located in a refugee resettlement zone. Approximately 35% of our school's students are of Asian or South Asian descent, 35% African American, and 15% white.
About 1 of every 3 students in our building is an English Language Learner. We have had over 60 different languages spoken in our building.
The majority of my students have had to surmount many difficult obstacles, despite their youth. They are no strangers to economic hardship, non-nuclear families, and language barriers. My students are a fantastic and resilient group of children who deserve the best art supplies, education, and support we can give them.
