As a teacher at a Title I School, our 180 students are on the cusp of finding their voice and leadership qualities, who understand the value of education. Many students face incredible obstacles but refuse to be defined by them. This class provides them with tools for life-long skills essential for college and career readiness no matter their post-secondary goals. Our classroom is a place where all students can come together to share their dreams and be themselves within a safe risk-taking environment. They work to build skills in time-management, organization, self-awareness, critical thinking and questioning, which are vital to long-term success in a post-secondary setting. Students are taught to see beyond the moment; in 9th grade they learn positive character development, 10th effective communication and integrity, 11th authentic writers and critical thinkers, 12th fine tuning leadership and interpersonal skills.
