What's the best way to become a better reader? Read! First grade students need to spend lots of time reading and listening to their teachers read, in order to develop strong literacy skills. Many of us love to read, but no one wants to do it on a hard, plain floor. These materials will help to motivate my students to want to read more often and for longer periods of time.
The colorful rugs and pillows will allow students to find a comfortable, attractive place to read, listen and learn. The rugs have designated areas for each child, so everyone has their own spot during comprehension lessons and read alouds. The pillows and smaller carpet will go in our reading area so students can get comfortable and increase their reading stamina.
