I want to create a class set of diverse books that the students can engage with throughout the year. Each text speaks to the students differently. When the students see themselves in a book, they are more likely to engage and keep reading. With these class sets, the students will be able to explore different stories!
My sixth-grade students fell in love with Ancient Greece and the elements of mythology. Not only did they want to explore civilization, but they submerged themselves in the culture of a myth. Following this, Percy Jackson was the next text on the list and it was consumed by the students within a week. My hope is to give the students the ability to approach longer texts and give them a range of books to access throughout the year.
