There is a sparkle in their eyes, an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and a deep desire to change the world. I am extremely fortunate to teach English Language Arts to 63 brilliant 6th grade students at a fantastic upper elementary school located approximately one hour outside Portland, Oregon.
Our school is a Title 1, growing upper elementary school home nearly 800 fifth and sixth grade students. Our student body is comprised of 59% students of color, 41% of whom are English Language Learners and 10% of whom come from migrant families. Approximately 64% of our student population is considered to be economically disadvantaged.
