We live in a rural community that is about thirty minutes from the nearest town. My students' work experiences are very limited due to the small job pool in our community. Since our budget for field trips and work experience ventures is so poorly funded we rely heavily on outside agencies for work experience opportunities. This project will enable my students to independently run a portable coffee cart business in our school setting, which will not only allow for work experience, socialization skills, and money skills to be practiced daily, but will alleviate the need to venture into the local communities for businesses to provided supported experiences for my students. This project will be beneficial to all students at our high school, not just my special needs students.
