Students will be broken into literature circles in order to discuss "La Linea" in small groups of four. In their groups they will engage in discussion about the characters, settings, and problems that occur in the story. Each student will have a role and each day the roles will change. This allows students to participate fully in literature circles.
Literature circles are a part of a balanced literacy program and structured for student independence, responsibility and ownership of their own learning. Students will be taught through modeling and scaffolding how to participate in literature circles. This will be done using the gradual release of responsibility model in which I model the roles until students independently do it on their own.
