I teach two middle school electives in engineering and design and I am the STEM specialist for K-5.
There is much discussion of closing the academic achievement gap between cultural and socioeconomic groups. However, those of us teaching in lower-income urban schools can see that the gap continues to widen when it comes to technology.
As a STEM Coordinator, my intention is to get technology in every pair of hands and to get hands-on experiences in every classroom and at every grade level.
It is my goal to prepare children for the 21st century by giving them skills, knowledge and curiosity about the always-changing and technological world we live in. Students will have choice in projects that cover science, technology, engineering and math.
