I teach in the Cincinnati Public School system. Most of the population at our school is eligible for free or reduced lunch. We are a community of high needs. I have six students in my Autism classroom. They are curious and eager to learn. They seek structure, calm, and love in an environment that they can trust. Even though many of my students have speech delays or are nonverbal, they seek to be understood and heard. They want to learn. In order to learn, however, they need sensory materials to help them release their anxiety and calm their bodies. Our classroom is filled with love, laughter, learning and at times, tears, but it is a great place to work each day!
