I am a Two-Way Spanish Immersion teacher serving bright and highly motivated middle school students in a high-poverty school. My students represent a diverse group of Spanish language learners who benefit from advanced literacy skills in two languages that they have worked hard to cultivate since kindergarten and beyond. In addition to the challenges presented by poverty, many of my students are first- and second-generation immigrants whose family members face an uncertain future due to their immigration status. Despite these challenges, my students possess a passion for learning and are committed to using their bilingual skills to be principled, inquiring members of a global community.
