I have a class of 18 eager learners. I am blessed to work in a great school with supportive parents in a middle-class community. I have a diverse classroom in respect to ethnicity as well as educational strengths. (As a teacher, I focus more on academic strengths and weaknesses.) I have two ESE students who have significant learning weaknesses. One of those students is deaf and uses a cochlear implant to help him hear. I have two students currently in the process of receiving Response to Intervention (RTI) services. That means that they are currently working below grade level and are receiving extra support to strengthen the skills that they are weak in. On the other end of the spectrum I have six students who are working significantly above grade level. There is a wide range of academic abilities in this class! However, this is what it means to teach these days. Every child has their very own learning goals and different lessons to help reach their goals.
