In many ways, students need a boost in social-emotional areas in light of COVID-19. A spark of joy can hopefully go a long way in doing that, even if it is something as simple as candy or chips. Many students have suffered greatly during the pandemic, losing loved ones, being sick themselves, and many are struggling as they return to my class. This hook may just be thing they remember the most, in light of COVID-19 during this school year.
