Classroom materials provide students with multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression but are however limited in scope in our school due to lack of funding. It is therefore important for these students to have materials that will allow them to retain the information and for teachers to have tools that will allow us to present the information. Learning is not useful if teachers and students do not have access to classroom materials. Since charter schools are not as well funded as other schools, teachers are limited to classroom materials that will keep students more engaged in the learning process. If students are well engaged, this will result in improved achievement. Many students in my classroom do not have access to technology at home, nor can their parents afford the supplies needed in the classroom but yet schools have reverted to online learning including online textbooks to save on the cost of materials. As an Educator, I need to account for inclusion. Math is a critical and a doing subject that is definitely not effective if students do not have add on tools such as papers ( needed to print students' homework to eliminate the need for in home technology), pencils, and other tools in the classroom. In order for Educators to bridge the gap between successful students in well funded schools and our school, I am pleading for these materials that are available in those schools but limited in my classroom which does not give our students a fair playing field to compete against other well funded schools.
