Every language arts classroom needs a good anchor text! On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer is a book that my students can read together as a class and have that common experience that all readers crave.
Not only is the plot straightforward, but the themes of being responsible, making good choices, and being honest are great for character education.
Students will read the book and analyze all aspects of it in accordance with Common Core standards. The reading level is just perfect for such a diverse group of students who are beginning middle school. In addition, students will have the opportunity to write with peers and on their own in order to reflect on the author's craft and also the meaning of the story.
