New music stands will allow my 6-8th grade band students to see their music while sitting with good posture, which will allow them to play their band instruments with the best possible sound.
The music stands for the Junior High Band are worn out from many, many decades of use, sinking with even the weight of a few sheets of music, causing students to need to look down and often slouch in order to read their music while playing. This causes issues with creating a good sound on any wind instrument, is a painful posture to maintain for any period of time, and prevents the students from being able to see the director's signals while playing and reading music.
Last year, we were blessed with the ability to purchase a set of new music stands for the High School Band. This caused an immediate and lasting positive difference in the students' posture, allowing them to use their full air capacity, which has improved their sound. The High School Band students are very appreciative and proud of their new stands, as are the Junior High Band students when they are given the opportunity to use them during school concerts (class picture).
New music stands will be treated with care so that my Junior High Band students will be able to adjust stand height appropriately in order to see and read their music while playing their instruments for years to come.
