My students come from a mix of middle to low income areas, from all different parts of the city of Chicago. Our school provides a safe place for them, where they can grow into productive members of society. We aim for every student to have job skills, and to leave our school with the tool set to be successful, be it in college or going directly into a business job market. Our school focuses on getting kids into positions where they can succeed, showing them that there are many different paths to take by giving each student the opportunity to be part of an internship. We do project based learning. They learn content and skills through the actual act of doing something related to it. We teach them computer science from day 1, learning how to program, use Photoshop, edit videos, and 3D modeling. They take these skills and apply them to core content areas, such as redesigning WWII propaganda posters to study the history of the war, how propaganda works, and the principles of graphic design.
