I teach 25 wonderful 1st graders in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood. This community is historically underserved; 92% of students at our school qualify as low-income, and over 50% are English learners. Despite the challenges my students face, they are an incredible bunch! They love to read, particularly picture books by Mo Willems. They are kind to one another and share generously despite the limited resources in our classroom. They push me everyday to be a better educator.
All children deserve the world, and my students have received far less than that due to systemic inequity. With the support of Ðǿմ«Ã½, I work hard to give them the education and opportunities they deserve.
