The district I work for is about 75% Hispanic. An even higher percentage of these children live in poverty. Many of them often do not speak English when they enter my room.
The school I work in is wonderful. We have a great faculty and staff to support the students with their needs. We even had a new playground this summer (how exciting!)
Since I am starting this project before school starts I have not yet met my new class but I am sure they will be bubbling with excitement to learn as much as they can.
On an average day we spend about 75% of our time on the carpet. We read stories, discuss our reading skills, do calendar, we practice our math skills and students will even use the carpet for their workstations.
In the Kindergarten classroom the carpet is the center of our learning experiences. Its our meeting place, our comfort zone and the centerpiece of our room.
