My students live and attend school in a very diverse and vivacious urban neighborhood in Chicago. They come from many varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds that we celebrate and honor within our classroom. My students love to share and learn with one another every day. Our school serves this culturally-rich, but high-poverty, neighborhood and provides our students with necessary meals, love, safety, and opportunities to learn that they may not always receive at home. Everyday we wonder, share, research, and think critically about the world in which we live through our writing, math explorations, science investigations, and in our deep discussions about the inspiring articles and books we read.
