With budget cuts to local schools, there are less resources available for hands-on STEAM lessons and experiences. Many of the students at my school do not have access to the internet, or even a computer, at home. This puts them at a disadvantage when compared with students in a more affluent area. With the iPad, my students will have the ability to create amazing presentations using a variety of media. This could all be accomplished from anywhere in the classroom!
With the technology requested, my students will have opportunities to try computer coding and programming as well as explore STEAM lessons. We will use the iPad to create video projects that will deepen their understanding of concepts while polishing their presentation skills. We will use green screen technology to transform learning. For example, we have a Genius Hour time each week where the students research a “thick question” in order to create a passion project to present to the community. In addition to these activities, students would be able to translate a class newsletter for parents. With the iPad, they would be able to have use of a Vietnamese and Spanish keyboard when it is needed.
