My third graders are full of questions and have an innate thirst about the world. One of my overarching goals throughout the year is to create an environment where my students are highly engaged and excited to read ALL the time. Equally important is for my students to value diversity and know that each of them brings important ideas to the table. My students represent a diverse population. I teach English Language Learners (from Africa, Mexico, and Honduras), African American students, and Caucasian students. I also have a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Having high interest books reflecting the lives of my students is key in opening that doorway to the love of reading--in hopes that my students can continue or begin their life-long joy of reading!
