Our urban school has dominated in sports for years despite the fact that we only have 3 fields for the students to play on. There are 10 sports actively trying to condition year round but there is literally no field to play on for each sport and often several sports are left without a place to go.
This problem has led to programs being cut and forced several teams to bus to locations where they are able to play. The students come from backgrounds where the only place they can be involved in a sport is at school for 2-3 hours a day on a team.
The girls soccer program runs year round in order to give these girls an opportunity to excel. I am in charge of the conditioning during the Spring Season and take both the Girls program as well as the Boys program. The soccer kids have soccer balls but no field to play on.
As a way to cross train we discovered that we were able to utilize the gym twice a week when basketball was out on the courts. We found floor hockey could supplement.
