My 3rd graders come from a neighborhood of high poverty. They attend an arts-themed charter school in which 90% of the students are learning English as a second language and 100% receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They are hard workers who are excited about learning, but who need to overcome obstacles at every turn (at home, in school, and in their communities) to achieve their goals. I am driven and inspired daily by my student's love and enthusiasm for learning, regardless of their backgrounds. My hope is that my students are provided with the necessary materials to keep this love for learning going!
