My students draft, peer-edit, revise and publish their writing every 5 weeks. They begin drafting and revising (often writing up to 4 drafts of their work before being ready to publish) in notebooks; students who have access to computers at home often type their essays and the rest will write their final drafts. Some students who don't have computers are so eager to see their work typed that they access Google Docs on their mobile devices.
I want to provide regular access to Chromebooks and the Internet so students can get the best out of their writing experience. Using Google Classroom, students will be able to collaborate with ease and give each other feedback in real time.
In addition to using the laptops so my students can publish their writing, I want to give them routine access to develop their grammar and aid in the revision process. I also plan on having students join NewsELA to have access to informational texts at their individual reading levels while also being challenged to improve their reading skills.
My students will be in high school next year, and I want them to enter this new phase of their lives with basic computer literacy skills. Your donation will help them be successful!
